The early history of the Alder Creek/Mackay, Copper Basin, Muldoon, and other districts near Mackay was described in Umpleby, J B, “Geology and Ore Deposits of the Mackay Region, Idaho,” USGS Professional paper 97, (Washington: GPO, 1917). The report includes the early history of the districts. http://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0097/report.pdf Accessed 17 November 2015. Mine Hill, located west of Mackay, was the location of many historic mines. The Mackay Mine Hill Trail provides access to most of this area. Download a BLM brochure and BLM map describing the trail.
