The Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum is located on the south shore of Lake Bancroft. The two Egyptian revival concrete headframes built in 1919frame the site with the 1955 modern headframe at the center. These headframes replaced the original 1870s wooden ones.
Craig Ilmonen, Director of the Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum, welcomes the MHAers to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and the Marquette Iron Range.
The museum occupies the old Miners’ Dry building, ca1901.One of the iconic concrete headframes of the Cliff Mine is seen above.
The MHAers were able to tour the museum, enjoy a tasty buffet, and greet friends old and new.
Volunteer docents were on hand to provide tours of the Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum and to answer countless questions from the MHAers.
