The car caravan of MHAers assembled at the Kelly Church, AKA St. John the Baptist Church, in the ghost town of Kelly, NM.

Handouts were distributed and a nose count of the 60-or-so participants taken before the Introduction could begin.

Ginny McLamore gives the MHAers a short course in the geology of the Magdalena Mining District and the Kelly Mine.

Bob Spude explains the game plan for the two groups that will visit the Kelly Mine or the Kelly townsite and cemetery.

    The Kelly Mine

Tour leader, Bob Spude, gathers his group for the trek up to the Kelly Mine.

It looks like a stranger has joined the group. (CHECK OUT THE PHOTO)

The MHAers head up Evans Avenue from the townsite to the mine.  Check out the Kelly Town page for photos of some of the remains of buildings that were passed along the way.

The cactus was in bloom along the road.

At the gate to the mine property, Bob Spude provides more information about the Magdalena Mining District.

The MHAers, many from lower elevations, catch their breath while they regroup.

The view down the valley to the west shows Magdalena Peak in the distance.

First view of the Kelly Mine Area. The mill is in the foreground, Traylor Shaft in the center, and the Paschal Shaft dump is on the hill above.
